Ganglion Removal

Ganglions (mucous cysts) are harmless but uncomfortable fluid- filled swellings that commonly occur in the wrist, hand and fingers.

Ganglions (mucous cysts) are fluid- filled swellings that commonly occur in the wrist, hand and fingers. 


They are harmless but can cause discomfort and in the fingers can lead to deformity of the nail. They probably mostly arise following minor trauma or from  arthritis.

Sometimes I will aspirate (drain) a ganglion at the wrist in the clinic, which is a simple procedure. However only about ¼ will remain settled.


Surgery has a 95% success rate and can be performed under local). 


There will be stitches that need removing after 9 or 10 days.
