Steroid Joint Injections

Also known as a cortisone injection, is a low-dose of an anti-inflammatory drug into a joint to treat pain and inflammation.

Patients suffering from an arthritis often have pain and swelling in the joints, often the wrist, thumb and fingers.

The mainstay of treatment is medical, but if there is a flair up in a particular joint then a steroid injection directly into the joint can reduce pain, redness and swelling. The relief, when effective, can last for 6 to 9 months. I can carry out injections in the clinic on an outpatient basis, and the risks are minimal.
