Chondrodermatitis is a common condition that affects the ear, generally on older men.

It presents with a nodule on the outer part of the ear. It is very tender, so much, that patients usually report that it wakes them if they roll onto that ear in the night. It is caused by an inflammation of both the skin and the cartilage. Treated under a local anaesthetic, excising both skin and cartilage. There are stitches that need to be removed at 1 week.

Downtime is minimal. There may be some deformity of the ear, although this is usually not significant. Chondrodermatitis can occasionally recur.
