Dermal Fillers

Juvederm

There are a vast array of dermal fillers on the market, and at The Wilson Clinic our team are able to select the most appropriate, safe, tried and tested products for you. The below information applies generically to all fillers, and more specific products will be discussed with you during your consultation. We have also included some links to provide you with further information on some of our most commonly used brands.

What does the procedure involve?

The injections can be painful so anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand, or local anaesthetic nerve blocks may be given. Immediately after the injections, there may be small pinpricks that are noticeable for a few hours. There is often some mild redness of the skin, but this settles by the next day. Bruising is unusual. Makeup can be applied immediately if required.

Is this treatment right for you?

Dermal Filler products are generally suitable to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles around the lower part of the face. They can be used to soften the marionette lines (mouth to chin) and also the nose to mouth folds, and various smaller wrinkles, or to ‘sculpt’ the face and even out asymmetrical defects. Also they can be used for the lip margin and in the lip itself to enhance the mouth and add definition to the area. There is no limit on age, but you will be fully assessed prior to any treatment to ensure that the treatments will be right for you.

Lines, wrinkles and folds suitable for treatment are:

  • Lip and mouth
  • Nose to mouth lines and folds
  • Marionette lines and corners of mouth
  • Lines on the cheeks and dimpling on the chin
  • Effective in preventing ‘lipstick bleed lines’
  • Deep lines between the eyebrows, usually combined with other treatment
  • Other areas can be treated such as scars, and minor deformities on the nose

What are the limitations?

The dermal fillers that we use in the clinic are all classed as temporary fillers. This means that, depending on the type of filler you have and the area treated, the product will last from approximately three months to eighteen months. More specific details will be relayed to you upon consultation.

Post Operative Recovery

The effect of dermal fillers is immediate although it will settle and look better after about three days. Some temporary bruising may occur and occasional swelling and treatment needs to be repeated to maintain the effect.

Hypersensitivity reactions are rare.
